Words CAN Hurt You
The old saying “Sticks and stones can break my bones but words will never hurt me” is extremely false. Words can and do hurt, and it hurts even more when it’s someone that you look up to.
People say that words don’t bother them, and that may be true to some extent, but no matter how tough you are, harsh words can hurt you. When people constantly mock you, it can cause you to question your character- to question who you are. If that happens to you, just take a step back and remember that hindsight is always 20/20 and it’s always the people who know you the least that judge you the most.
No one knows you better than you do and no one can be a better you than you can. So be just that; be the best you that you can be.
Words do hurt. Unlike physical abuse, verbal abuse has the power to make you feel less than what you are. No one should have the power to do that to you. Bullying, whether physical or verbal, is serious. It still plagues not only children, but people of all ages. If you feel that you are being bullied or harrassed, if anyone makes you feel uncomfortable, tell someone that can help. You don’t have to get through it alone.
Besides, if someone tries to bring you down, it’s only because they know that you are above them. Take Toy Story for example:
Words hurt, but they don’t have to. There are over seven billion people in the world, don’t let just one bring you down.
